Denise Wakeman and Ellen Britt, Co-Founders of The Future of Ink

Recently Ellen Britt and I were honored to be invited to do an interview with our colleague and Future of Ink expert writer, D’vorah Lansky for her Conversations About Marketing audio series.

D’vorah plied us with questions about why we launched The Future of Ink, how digital publishing has changed our businesses, what we have planned for the future, and much more.

At one point when asked about physical vs. digital books, Ellen declares, “In the last two years I have undergone a sea change. I could care less if I ever buy another physical book again.” Where do you come down on that question? Me? I’m with Ellen.

You can watch slides while you listen or download the audio and listen anytime at your convenience.

  1. What a great interview! This is a MUST listen-to for all entrepreneurs as they struggle to be heard amid all the digital noise. You answer the questions I get asked the most about publishing. I appreciate your forward-thinking style. I’m making sure all my peeps know about this great interview, Denise, Ellen, and Dvorah. Thank you!

P.S. I, too, have so many physical books – my husband wonders why the floor hasn’t caved in under the weight of the shelves that hold them. I thought I would NEVER enjoy digital books as much as physical books, and boy, was I wrong. I’m a complete convert now because of the ease of purchasing, reading, using, and gifting digital content. LOVE how I can read in bed with the backlit scrren, how I can read whatever suits my mood because I have over 100 books at a time to choose from, and how I can change the font to bigger or smaller, depending on the mood of my eyesight too. LOVE that we, as entrepreneurial authors, are able to add to the rich digital library with such flow and ease. It’s great to be a part of this journey.

  2. Elizabeth Tessier says:

I enjoyed reading the Future of Ink website but was dismayed to find no way to ask questions about the conference before plunking down a minimum of $200.

If there is a contact function and I missed it, please let me know and accept my apologies. My main question is, how will the conference work (e.g., Teleseminars)? On what days? At what times?

Without this information, I can’t make a decision about whether to register. Wondering if others have similar misgivings.

The organizers are brilliant to assemble such an impressive group of experts to address the moving targets of online content and monetization. But I have to wonder what the lack of an obvious way to ask questions says about the marketing philosophy of those who put the site together.

  3. Denise I have to say I was shocked you had auto start on this video/audio.I have enjoyed your online presence for a LONG time ( more than 6 years? is my menopause causing me to miscalculate, chuckle).

Now for physical or digital books, I still LOVE my physical books. Like an artist of words, dreams and worlds we create for our imaginations, I find the experience of reading more fulfilling with it in my hands, turning pages.

  4. I’m listening to the interview now and I so agree with Ellen about video. I will choose written instructions or a transcript 9 times out of 10 if I am in a learning situation. I’ve also skipped a post etc. if it’s only in video, especially if there is no indication of how long the video is. I do like video, but again like Ellen mentioned, I like it when I feel a need for a visual element.
